Smart card provider Gemalto and chip manufacturer NXP will jointly develop NFC solutions in connection with SIM cards. The move aims at using the inherent SIM security for NFC applications. The activities will focus on applications that use the Single Wire Protocol (SWP) and the MIFARE contactless payment technology. Both partners plan to define and develop SIM products for SWP-based solutions.

NTT DoCoMo and South Korea’s KTF have just joined UK-based Vodafone, Orange of France, Telefónica Móviles of Spain, South Korea’s SK Telecom and China Mobile in the GSMA NFC workgroup.
